No Howell 24-Hour Release Feed
The Howell County Sheriff’s Office provides an official current-roster entry point, but it does not provide a released tab or a filter for the previous day. The embedded sheet groups current names by housing or status and carries a timestamp. It does not show a Released Date, exact exit time, release reason, bond, charge, booking photo, or destination. It cannot answer who left the Howell County Adult Detention Center today.
The local historical channel is different. The sheriff’s blotter archive links weekly Arrest Reports that can include an explicit Released Date. Those reports are periodic, not a minute-by-minute feed. A date may corroborate a same-day event after the report appears, but the archive should not be described as a complete release ledger or a published legal retention schedule.
Check Howell Releases Today
A same-day inquiry should keep a clear record of which source was checked and when. For one named person, use the full lookup on the Howell County released-inmate search. For the broader question of who left today, work through these county channels in order:
- Open the timestamped current jail sheet. Note the displayed time and whether the person is listed. Treat that result only as present display status.
- Call the Howell County Sheriff’s Office at 417-256-2544. Ask for the proper custody or records channel for a specific release event.
- Check the relevant Howell court matter through Missouri Case.net. A bond or release order helps identify the legal event, but not the exact time a person physically left.
- If phone confirmation is unavailable, use the sheriff’s records-request instructions and LESP 73 for the event, date, reason, and destination.
- Check Missouri VINE as a secondary status or alert source only if the relevant Howell agency appears in the live selector.
- Return to the weekly Arrest Report after publication and look for a matched Released Date.
Use the separate 72-Hour Releases workflow when the time range crosses more than one calendar day. That wider review is better for a Friday-to-Monday question or a release that may have appeared in a later report.
Howell’s Two Release Tools
Howell County splits present custody and release history between two official tools. The current sheet answers whether a name is displayed at the sheet’s timestamp. The weekly tracker points to arrest reports that preserve a Released Date. Neither tool can be filtered into an official 24-hour released-person list.
The weekly report tracker shows why the archive, not a roster filter, is the useful local follow-up. Its source view is shown below.
A weekly row may cover the needed date, but publication cadence still prevents it from proving a same-day event in real time. Call the jail when timing matters.
Howell 24-Hour Release Fields
Because Howell has no actual 24-hour feed, the fields below separate what the live sheet supplies from what a release inquiry needs. Do not assume a blank field means the event did not happen.
| Field | What Howell Sources Show |
|---|---|
| Name and current grouping | Visible on the current sheet when the person is presently displayed. |
| Sheet timestamp | Shows when the public snapshot was generated, not a promised release-update time. |
| Released Date | May appear in a matched weekly Arrest Report. A blank entry does not confirm continued custody. |
| Inmate and complaint numbers | Weekly reports may provide identifiers useful for matching the person to court and custody records. |
| Bond and arrest details | May appear in the weekly record and help explain context, but do not by themselves prove physical release. |
| Exact time, reason, destination | Not supplied by the observed roster and not assured in the weekly report. Request the underlying release record. |
A sound identity match uses full name, age or birth information when open, inmate number, complaint or cause number, arrest date, and agency held for. A common name alone is not enough.
Chronology also matters. A Howell arrest can be followed by a bond order, release from the county jail, a later court disposition, or admission to another custody system. The public sources may post those events at different times. Preserve the wording and date supplied by each source rather than filling an apparent gap. If the roster and weekly report appear to conflict, the sheriff’s underlying record is the proper place to reconcile them.
Howell Bond Release Is Not Discharge
Howell’s official bonds page distinguishes cash-only, 10-percent-cash-allowed, 10-percent-cash-only, surety, signature, and personal-surety arrangements. Jail staff will not recommend a bondsman. Payment and return details depend on the bond type.
A bond release ends that period of pretrial detention after the authorized condition is met. It does not end the criminal case, prove dismissal, or equal completion of a sentence. Match the sheriff’s release record to the court docket before describing what the event means.
- Bond release
- Departure from pretrial custody after the court’s bond condition is satisfied.
- Time served
- Release after a local term or credited period has been satisfied.
- Transfer
- The sending jail’s custody ends while another agency’s custody begins.
- Final discharge
- State supervision ends. This differs from parole or conditional release.
Request a Howell Release Record
Use LESP 73 when the weekly report lacks the exact time, reason, or destination. Identify the person with lawful details and narrow the request to the Howell County Adult Detention Center, date range, and specific booking and release event. Ask for the release date and time, disposition or type, and receiving agency or destination if recorded and open. Request an estimate before fees are incurred.
Mail or hand-deliver the request to Court Resources Division, Howell County Sheriff’s Office, 1106 Missouri Avenue, West Plains, MO 65775. The records email is records@howellcountysheriff.gov, but current electronic practice should be confirmed at 417-256-2544 before sensitive identifiers are sent. No fixed fee, free-service promise, or guaranteed turnaround was published in the reviewed sources.

Match Howell’s Custody System
The county roster applies to the Howell County Adult Detention Center. West Plains Police operates a separate Adult Detention Center at 1910 Holiday Lane, so county-roster absence does not verify a city-jail release. Start with the West Plains Police record channel at 417-256-7176 when that agency created the booking.
| Custody Type | Correct Release Check |
|---|---|
| Howell County jail | Weekly sheriff report, jail confirmation, LESP 73, and court record. |
| West Plains city jail | West Plains Police record plus the related court case. |
| Missouri state custody | MODOC Offender Web Search for active custody or supervision; historical data or a request after final discharge. |
| Federal custody | BOP locator and federal records. The county roster is not a federal release source. |
MODOC’s public search includes active offenders, such as people on parole or probation, but expressly excludes discharged offenders. Use it only when state custody or supervision is involved.
A person still shown on the Howell sheet is displayed in current county custody at the recorded timestamp. A person with a matched Released Date has a documented departure from that facility, but the destination still controls the meaning. Release on bond or time served may return the person to the community. Transfer to MODOC, another county, federal custody, or immigration custody means confinement continued elsewhere. The weekly date alone should never erase that distinction.
Howell News Finds Older Reports
Ozark Radio News and Howell County News preserve examples of sheriff report or blotter material. They can help locate a past weekly document when an older link is hard to find.
Those outlets are discovery aids, not the final custody authority. Confirm the Released Date against the sheriff’s official tracker or request the underlying jail record. If two sources differ, retain both statements and ask the records custodian to resolve the conflict.
Note: A roster or portal failure means the source was unavailable at that moment, not that no record exists.
